Like many other critics, I dragged myself to a Friday morning matinee and bought a ticket to see the unpromising Piranha 3D, which Dimension did not screen for the press. It had everything working against it: it was a remake, an August horror film, and in 3D. |

Piranha 3D didn't make a huge splash at the box office this weekend -- $10 million and the #6 place. But the money that was made is enough to ensure the film will recoup the film's estimated $24 million budget. |

Last year it was announced that the Weinstein brothers had acquired the rights to remake An American Werewolf in London, and my heart sank. Since then, there's been no news of any progress on the project, and I promptly forgot about it. |

After six months since it was announced that Disney-owned indie distributor Miramax would be shutting down and getting sold off, we finally have an official sale. Miramax Films was sold to Filmyard Holdings LLC today for over $660 million subject to certain adjustments. |

Price: $660 million. Buyers: an investment group headed by Ron Tutor, a California construction mogul. Non-buyers: the Weinsteins, Ron Burkle, Rob Lowe.
